Women in Heavy Civil
Women in Heavy Civil (WIHC), led by members of the Beavers board, extends a warm welcome to both men and women in leadership positions within the industry.
Our mission is to attract, retain and promote women into the Heavy Civil Construction Industry.
Currently, women represent less than 10% of the workforce in operational roles within our sector of the construction industry. The result is our loss: many smart, talented individuals who could significantly contribute to Heavy Civil are not choosing this field.
Our membership includes both men and women in leadership positions within Heavy Civil who are committed to advancing the committee’s objectives. The committee’s leadership consists of Beavers board members, with membership including participants from Beavers member companies.
WIHC Mission
Fellowship – Provide opportunities for women to gather and share ideas and experiences around the current and envisioned environment in Heavy Civil workplace and educational settings
Support – Offer outreach and financial support for women embarking on (or advancing in) Heavy Civil careers. Mentorship and BCT scholarships are two examples of this support.
Training and Education – Provide educational opportunities for men and women interested in the expansion of the Heavy Civil workforce to include more women

Apply for a Scholarship
Our targeted scholarship program for women in the Heavy Civil sector aims to address workforce development challenges by clearly signaling our commitment to supporting and developing women in construction. While women can already win scholarships from the Beavers’ Charitable Trust (BCT), this initiative not only adds resources but also encourages more women to consider and pursue careers in our industry. https://thebeavers.org/guidelines
